"Defending the right to rant!"

An anti-social socialist?                                                                                 RSS feed

From Obama's Commencement Address at Virginia’s Hampton University 5/9/10

"...You’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t rank all that high on the truth meter...With iPods and iPads; Xboxes and PlayStations -- none of which I know how to work -- information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment. All of this is not only putting new pressures on you; it is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy...”

AN ANTI-SOCIAL SOCIALIST?

All that I know about social media

Was learned on a visit to Wikipedia.

Not one clue about the "next thing"

I've never even considered texting.

I can type an e-mail and click on SEND

But I've never had a Facebook friend.

What's really putting pressure on our democracy

Is the increased level of presidential hypocrisy!

When you don't lecture on personal technology

You don't owe anyone a texted apology.

Hey, Obama said he couldn't use modern technology. Another lie.

  From Bloomberg.com - Election Eve 2008

...For almost two years, Obama...has dominated the politics of the Internet, where his YouTube videos have been watched 90 million times, his social-networking site has recruited 8 million volunteers and he has more than 2 million supporters on Facebook..."

Obama plays with his Blackberry during the campaign.

During the campaign it was a different story
The Blackberry was his pride and glory.
There's a poster of him contentedly seated
As he used a few of his apps and tweeted.

Another campaign thing they'd best be hidin'
Is the text message that announced Joseph Biden.
Then he gave an iPod to the British Queen
But suddenly he can't make that scene?
Inability to game Sony PlayStation
Makes him warn against e-information?

What's really putting pressure on our democracy

Is the increased level of presidential hypocrisy!

Great job, Eddo! You know what killed me the several times I saw that clip of Obama was the people behind him. Their faces looked like what Obama was saying just wasn't...well, computing... To top that off, Obama pauses in that speech as if he expected some applause, and what audience reaction there was could hardly be called supportive. One thing he shouldn't have done is attack the younger, techie generation--they live by their devices. And no matter how hypocritical his words came across to old farts like me, he didn't win himself any converts and probably lost a few ardent supporters. If the techie generation has to choose between Obama and iPod, Obama's going to lose. And he ought to be smart enough politically to figure that out and avoid forcing the decision.

Some of which don't rank that high on the truth meter" - President Barack Obama

Was he talking about the real cost of Health Care Reform, his signature accomplishment?

Maybe he was talking about the General Motors loan repayment?

Could it be the Jobs Saved or Created statistics that can't be documented?

The inferences in this address were sort of frightening...

He would rather we all (or just the young) be robots and just listen to him and not question or find out for ourselves the hypocrisy he spews. He talks out of both sides of his mouth.

Populist rhetoric to make us think he's just an average joe. The reality is, he's getting hammered through the new media and he don't like it. Keep using your "tool of empowerment" eddo, keep putting pressure on our democracy, and keep Obama squirming.

Doesn't know how to govern or use an iPod. And he got elected how?

This blog is total non-sense. You admit that you don't understand contemporary communications. You also don't seem to care. Yet you feel The popularity of new forms has some hidden meaning. Perhaps you should review your parents comments on your choice of music and books And realize that things evolve. Face it, the

GOP  is stuck with stoggy old white men who send communications via telegraph. Maybe a favorite of your Generation, but certainly not mine nor the younger. Obama is not trying to brainwash the populous any more than W did with his weapons of mas Distruction speech. Obviously, you are part of the problem and not the solution

Someone tell Mr. Obama that the campaign is over and that he won. Time to stop mocking his constituents and start doing something that resembles leadership.

Just wait until they try to shut up Rush, O'Reilly, Beck, Hannity, Bortz, and other's who expose the liberals and their agendas...All crap will hit the fan then...And the libs I believe will try and do it...American's made a big mistake in the last 5 years or so putting the liberals in power, and they see the results.. hopefully they will turn a wrong into a right...

Actually eddo is correct. Obama hints at the "problem" being too much technology...yet he, himself, has so many gadgets [that] he had Blackberry make him his own device...

Two problems with what obama said. The first of course is that most of what he mentioned is NOT information tools, but ENTERTAINMENT and brain numbing.

The second is that he loved the over information as long as it idolized HIM and helped HIM win the Whitehouse. Now that it has learned about him and turned around and is biting him in the as$, he thinks that his followers should quit reading and learning the truth.

Can we say HYPOCRISY, boys and girls?

Everyone step back and take a breath. Find the text for that particular speech and do this:
1. read the paragraph about media being a distraction. and then skip all the stuff down to....
2. where he talks about Thomas Jefferson and people being informed.

So easy a cave man can read through it.

Obama is just setting the stage I am afraid. He would love to have total control over the internet and iPods as well as all other forms of communication BEFORE the next election. NOBODY LOVES OBAMA MORE THAN HE DOES. That's a fact Jack...

Great post Ed. The new media is undermining the "Big Lie" politics which has been the bread and butter of the Socialists. Of course they hate it. But it is scary when "The Leader" slams free press and communications. Will moves be made to silence it?

95 percent of people don't know what socialism consists off.

I imagine you don't know what socialism is either...we live in a plutonomy ran by people who are corporatist. Look it up.

If you think socialism is taking money away from people and giving it to others, then you should criticize the Bush administration equally with that of Obama's. The Bush administration was the first to start giving TAX PAYERS MONEY to CORPORATIONS. I'm still waiting to get paid back...

[The elite 5% -- by your estimation -- who think they know the correct political definitions for everything are the same Kool-Aid drinkers who come up with PC euphemisms for war, terrorism, mental retardation, homosexual issues, etc. You can tell who they are by their need to mention the name of the former president ASAP to bolster their arguments and demean their opposition. -ED]

As long as the MSM does not question the one, it is like it never happened. I find it interesting that the liberals try so hard to control information so only the right information (err...or do I mean the LEFT information) gets out to the public.

I guess new media sure plays a role when it comes to raising money and selling a smoke screen of an image, but sure gets in the way while trying to radically (and that is the correct word) transform what was once a great country.

I can see the meetings in the administration, with good old Rahm the thug...
Main stream media, Check

Internet and talk radio......um, needs more work, but give us time, we will use a diversity scheme to put this under the MSM, since they are losing money spreading the leftist propaganda.

oh well, Time to check out some blogs, before they require pop-ups to the Democratic Underground or Daily Kos, like is being suggested by "The One" our Lord and Messiah, President King Obama.

[Great rant! But I think you've been reading a bit too much eddobloggo -- for which I thank you. -ED]

He claims he doesn't know how to use it but doesn't spend time exploiting it whenever he can. Like putting an "interview" with his latest Supreme Court nominee. Well it really wasn't an interview it was a plant to control the media but we all know exactly what it was.

Great blog its time to expose these liberals for whom they really are: losers who have goofed off and clowned around early in life and made all the wrong choices in life, who NEVER take responsibility for their actions, who still blame their parents for their ineffective social skills while living in their basement! Losers who want anyone but their taxes to go up! Losers want the government in everyone else’s business but their own. Show me a liberal and I will show you the true missing link!

This administration.... They remind me of the dumb school teacher who constantly tries to BS through the questions he doesn't know...and constantly gets called on the BS... From Obama calling the police "stupid", to calling Arizona "unfortunately misguided". It is all about the cult of personality and the personality is like the breeze--and it isn't just Obama. Holder, Gibbs, all of them do it; speak first what is popular; rationalize and clarify later if you called on the BS.
