Appointments Beget Appointments

The dually-sworn president prescribes truth, light and transparency as the therapy necessary to rehabilitate our nation's domestic image. Meanwhile, the new Secretary of State promises to conduct "robust diplomacy" and to implement similar goodwill PR in her attempt to reverse what both she and her boss perceive to be our tarnished image abroad.

Let's revisit Sen. Hillary Clinton's March 17, 2008 campaign speech at George Washington University regarding an official trip she and Bill took to the Balkans in 1996 in which she said...

"...I remember landing [in Bosnia] under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."

Perhaps Hillary's first mission should be a return to the Balkans where she can explain and/or apologize for this and other exaggerations of her importance during her unelected, un-appointed White House career. Only then will the First Lady of Pants Suits be qualified to begin making America right with the world again.

Hillary's fellow "lawyer" Caroline Kennedy, having proved herself to be the dimmest of wits in an
out-of-nowhere attempt to be appointed to Hillary's vacated US Senate seat, New York's Governor David Paterson ultimately selected yet another lady lawyer to wear the pants suit for New Yorkers in the US Senate.

Kirsten Gillibrand, recently elected to a second term in Congress as representative of upstate Albany and its surrounding rural Capital District counties, was selected today by Paterson shortly after Ms. Kennedy submitted a mysterious midnight withdrawal from consideration that freed him to find a better qualified replacement for Hillary without the criticism that would have come had he rejected Caroline.

Kennedy's press release cited "personal reasons" -- perhaps the worsening of her Uncle Ted's brain tumor-related illness -- but several credible reporters are about to release scandalous information that could include allegations of resume exaggeration, tax evasion, a nanny documentation problem and even an adulterous affair with the publisher of the New York Times. It could be any or all of the above.

Rep. Gillibrand just happens to be my own congressional representative. We live in the Catskill Mountains near the Hudson River Valley about 40 miles from New York's capital.

Despite reports that Gillibrand is considered one of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats because she voted against the $700 billion Wall Street bailout bill and supports gun owner rights (this district is prime deer hunting territory and attracts large numbers of hunting-related tourists) I can tell you first hand that her list of accomplishments is extremely short and that New York Conservatives consider her to be a liberal lightweight.

Furthermore, Gillibrand was a Bill Clinton appointee, serving as an official in the Housing and Urban Development Department. Even when the former president refused to campaign for Democrat candidates during the 2006 congressional election he made a special trip to Albany for an hour-long airport photo-op with Gillibrand.

Nonetheless, her upset win over a Republican perennial came not as the result of Bill Clinton's
endorsement but because a police report was leaked just prior to Election Day in which her opponent's wife had called 911 in what appeared to be a domestic violence incident.

The congresswoman's subsequent re-election was surprising considering the release, during the recent campaign, of unflattering, un-liberal news accounts of Gillibrand's history as a Phillip Morris corporate attorney. During that part of her career she had clandestine meetings about the dangers of smoking followed by a public denial that the cigarette maker had any knowledge that their product was linked to cancer.

When it comes to appointments these days, the more Clintonian they are the more appoint-able they are likely to be.

Good article Ed. princess caroline is a joke and the NY gov didn't need that hanging on his neck. The libs will get over it. Meanwhile the road to liberal fascism has started. Anybody but a democrat in 2010 and 2012.

Bash away, bash away, bash away all. You lost. Get over it. Spend your time formulating some good ideas for fixing the economy, or re-establishing the reputation of the U.S. in the world, or better yet - just shut up. Why keep rehashing insignificant historical events.

More wingnuttery.

But I gotta compliment you on "dually-sworn" - that's clever :)

"Perceived" tarnished image abroad, lol?  I would say perceived may only be in your mind's eye, lol....try polling people from other countries before you think it's only "perceived."

Before you start to dig into partisan criticism, why don't you wait and give him a chance to try to fix the problems put upon Americans by 8 years of economic negligence by a man, whose economics' tutor, once told me, "No matter how hard I tried to teach George Bush economics, he could just never fathom it."

Just be glad at least there is someone in the White House who has some brains this time, and will probably do everything in his power to protect the Constitution.

(Sore loser, eh?)

[If America is so bad why do so many people from abroad want to live here? As for giving "them" a chance, Hillary has been my Senator since 2000 and hasn't done a thing but run for president and Gillibrand hasn't done much more as my congresswoman for the last two years.  Am I a sore loser? Sure. But I'm a gracious winner too and I can assure you that the worms will turn with the kind of novices and Clintonista hacks your Constitution Defender is employing. -ED]

The GOP was soundly defeated and foolish but patriotic optimists supposed that that would to end this kind of crap. I guess it'll take 8 more years to fully squash the negativity and lack of compassion that's still out there.

".... As I exited the airplane I distinctly remember the sniper fire and immediately ducked and sought cover. The bullets were flying and there were so many sniper bullets it darkened the night sky. Of course, I continued to perform my mission, undaunted by the danger in which I was placed by our marvelously brave soldiers. It seems like a dream now..."

The clandestine W administration was okay? And light, truth and transparency are not needed to rehabilitate our nation's image? So educated liberal women in pantsuits should stay at home where they belong and not exaggerate? Oh yeah... men own exaggeration! Is that all? Maybe she remembered being afraid of bullets even if they weren't flying? I think I could forgive her for that. Could you? Make a point please? Oh yeah... the point is that you don't like her. Just say that.

[Not only don't I like her but, judging by what she has done in the Senate as my senator, I think her resume and overall qualifications are hyped to the moon...both by her and the Obamanistas. Gillibrand has done zero in Congress as my congresswoman (although she keeps in touch by mail more than any politician I've ever known -- which his an abuse of her franking privilege since it's all about PR for the next election) and I doubt that anyone will ever accuse her of being a genius. Caroline Kennedy speaks for herself, um you know. Now you be honest. If you could appoint the Secretary of State would you select Hillary over everyone else?
