"Well,
Barack, we've been eager to exploit that next crisis
and here it is!
[chuckle]
The best part is that none of us could ever have
imagined such a phenomenal opportunity emerging
from a success rather than from an emergency or
a failure. It's been so long since
any of us has scored that I almost
overlooked it."
"C'mon, don't keep me in suspenders Rahm. What
gives?"
"I'm
prepared to send a memo to every Democrat member
of Congress and to have one of your speech guys
adapt it for the teleprompter, as well.
This is a BIG BLEEPING DEAL as the
Loose Cannon would say. Here, let me read it to you...

My Fellow
Progressives:
Plain and simple,
we got clobbered at those town halls last
summer. This enabled an anti-Obama,
anti-Democrat grass roots
movement to form and grow as a result of our
poor showing. However, in light of our
successful Obamacare maneuvering, things are
quite different now.
In
order to capitalize on those vile,
well-publicized post-passage voice mails and
Gabrielle Gifford's broken office window -- and
to insure, in the process, that you will never
again have to face an angry mob in your district
-- we suggest immediate implementation of the
It's too dangerous to appear in public
anymore
because my enemies are out to assassinate me strategy
inspired by Chapter 16:Verse 24 of the teachings
of the grand master.
|
...what do you
think, Barack?"
"I
like it fine, Rahm, but there might be a slight problem. Those tea bag people
have gotten hip to our Alinsky tactics. So
just in case this memo ever falls into
the wrong hands I want you to drop the
chapter/verse Alinsky reference."
"OK.
No prob. Anything else?"
"What
if some right-wing hatchet blogger finds out
that, say, the congresswoman's window had gotten
broken by accident or that someone other than a
tea partier or GOP apparatchik had made one or
more of those recorded calls?"
"That's no real problem, boss. It's just
as easy to demonize any given unaligned radical
anti-abortionist and to lump him in with the
rest of the right-wing nuts."
"Great. How about our own militants?
What if the Tea Party points to that SEIU beating in St.
Louis last year or if FOX starts showing that
video again of the Black Panthers posted
in front of the polling place in Philly on
my Election Day?"
"We've already dealt with those issues.
Besides, given the heightened assassination
concern that we'll be creating, union goons
volunteering to be bodyguards for our
officeholders will be perceived as a necessary
evil."
"That is pretty slick, Rahm. I'll
dress it up by adding to my speeches that I'm fortunate enough
to have the Secret Service protecting me
24/7/365 but these poor public servants are out
there all alone with bulls' eyes painted on
their backs. Maybe I'll even do some
shout-outs to the better-dressed goons when I'm
out stumping with Democrats. That should
make us some extra points with our union base."
"So it's a go?"
"Absolutely! I think even Gibbs and Pelosi
can make this one sound credible."

Epilogue:
Rep. Eric Cantor (VA) the No. 2
Republican in the House said that "...a
bullet was shot through the window
of my campaign office in Richmond [this past
Monday]." Cantor has requested
increased security protection but
has not indicated a plan to
curtail his public appearances.
Rep. Cantor said it was
"reprehensible"
for
Democrats to use threats of violence
against lawmakers for political
gain. |
Sounds like someone
beside Rahm Emanuel and Barack Obama
has been reading Rules for
Radicals by Saul D. Alinsky.
Fight
fire with fire.
