No folks, it's not those guys on the coough drops box. It's the fatheres of communism -- Marx and Engels! So, you don’t think we're moving towards socialism -- it’s a crazy idea, right?  Before you dismiss the thought entirely, just take a look at these points.  It's not a Democrat vs. Republican or Liberal vs. Conservative issue.  It's a freedom vs. bondage issue.  Please take notice!

Karl Marx and Frederick Engels wrote The Communist Manifesto in 1848.  In it they described how the proletariat can take power from the bourgeoisie.  There were ten commandments in their manifesto which, if implemented, would bring about the full realization of the communist utopian dream -- the most advanced form of socialism. Present-day facts follow each commandment:

  1. 1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes. (Taxation and eminent domain powers are in place to do just that.  Eminent domain is already being enforced regularly to take private property for public good.)
    2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax. (
A graduated tax system is already being used to re-distribute wealth.)
    3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
(The inheritance tax system is in place to raise them to whatever gets passed by the politicians.  They could make them as high as they want; eventually leaving little or nothing nothing in the estates of the deceased.)
    4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
    (
This is a reference to police power.  If you rebel, you will be locked up.  Rebelling, of course includes not paying your taxes, in which case they will take your property to “make them whole” and take you away.)
    5. Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.  (No need to elaborate on this one.  The banks did NOT need to be bailed out! Many might have gone out of business but the system would have survived and remained independent.)
    6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the state. (There is more and more talk of the Fairness Doctrine, or taxing radio stations as much as 100% on programs that don’t include promotion of the government’s agenda.  Obama’s Diversity Czar, Mark Lloyd has said that he believes Hugo Chavez does a good job handling the media.  Doesn’t that scare you?)
    7.  Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan. (Government takeover of the largest US auto maker...the healthcare industry is obviously next on the agenda.  Once they control insurance, manufacturing and other business segments won’t be far from takeover.  Could you have imagined anything like this happening just a couple of years ago? Be honest.)
    8. Equal obligation of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture. (
Unionization; pushing card check so employers and dissenting employees won’t have a choice about whether to be unionized.  Unions are beholden to the ruling party and vice versa.)
    9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country. (Most of the population once lived in rural areas.  Now, most people live in cities.  The process is moving along in the “right” direction.)

  2. 10.   Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc. (Free education…hmmm.  Who chooses the curriculum?  Khrushchev told Kennedy that the Soviets would not need missiles to bring communism to the U.S.; it would be done though the schools via indoctrination.  You cannot help but notice that many of the thirty-somethings are thinking in a way that was unimaginable not too long ago.  Could their education have had something to do with that?)

Making people completely dependent on education, health care, housing and as many other aspects of government as possible is the way that tyrants gain power over the population.

Obtaining "free stuff" actually comes at a very high cost -- loss of choice.  Of course, you will also be taxed up to 90% to enable you to get all of that "free" stuff.  Once WE THE PEOPLE lose the power of choice, we lose our ability to have a voice.  If you can choose one company over an other; one school over another; one politician over another, you have power.  Without it you are powerless.  You still have the power to choose... what'll it be?
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have lived by the words of Saul Alinsky since their college days. Is it a coincidence that Rules for Radicals has a red cover?
Saul Alinsky, admitted communist and the “father of community organizing”, incorporated these ideas into his teachings.  The actual techniques included assimilation and non-exposure of one’s true beliefs.

Concealed to the greatest extent possible, Barack Obama was a student of and taught in one of Saul Alinsky’s schools.  Hillary Clinton wrote her thesis at Wellesley College on Saul Alinsky.

You might be right i
f you think that recent events are all happening by coincidence.  However, it is undeniable that they are happening!  Not one of my stated points has been made up.

Please don’t make this a Republican/Democrat issue because I did not post this to get a Republican elected.  Rather, this is a plea.  I'm pleading with you to pay attention to someone who has been through this before.

DON'T JUST LET IT HAPPEN!

Today's [edited] commentary was originally posted as a reader blog by Livia Sappington at the Palm Springs Desert Sun website.

About the Author:

Livia Sappington was born in Budapest, Hungary and was raised in its soviet-style socialist system. In 1973 Livia illegally left Hungary via the former Yugoslavia and eventually crossed the border into Italy where she and her fiance spent a year in a refuge camp. If captured, Livia would have spent many years in a Hungarian prison.

With the help of the IRC (International Rescue Committee) Livia arrived in New York City in 1974 -- unable to speak English -- with a bankroll of $60. Later, through self-education, reading, and hard work, Ms. Sappington built a couple of businesses and was instrumental in bringing German equity into the USA for shopping center development.

I will see to the piece's exposure to the utmost of my ability SW. But sending links to your family and friends couldn't hurt.  Your "hometown girl" is a GREAT American! -ED]

Good food for thought. The consolidation of companies is not a good thing either. Each dollar we spend is a vote, and something worth thinking about.

...Similarities between the Communist Manifesto and the Nazi platform of 1920...

- That all unearned income, and all income that does not arise from work, be abolished.

- Since every war imposes on the people fearful sacrifices in blood and treasure, all personal profit arising from the war must be regarded as treason to the people. We therefore demand the total confiscation of all war profits.

- We demand the nationalization of all trusts.

- We demand profit-sharing in large industries.

- We demand a generous increase in old-age pensions.

- We demand the creation and maintenance of a sound middle-class, the immediate communalization of large stores which will be rented cheaply to small tradespeople, and the strongest consideration must be given to ensure that small traders shall deliver the supplies needed by the State, the provinces and municipalities.

- We demand an agrarian reform in accordance with our national requirements, and the enactment of a law to expropriate the owners without compensation of any land needed for the common purpose. The abolition of ground rents, and the prohibition of all speculation in land.

- In order to make it possible for every capable and industrious German to obtain higher education, and thus the opportunity to reach into positions of leadership, the State must assume the responsibility of organizing thoroughly the entire cultural system of the people. The curricula of all educational establishments shall be adapted to practical life. The conception of the State Idea (science of citizenship) must be taught in the schools from the very beginning. We demand that specially talented children of poor parents, whatever their station or occupation, be educated at the expense of the State.

"Please don’t make this a Republican/Democrat issue..."  And yet you name two Democrats while completely ignoring Republican contributions to the ideas presented. Non-partisan indeed.

[Three if you count Chavez. But name some Republicans who fit the same bill and I'll be happy to edit them into the piece. -ED]

You do have a point, there are some republicans whose actions facilitate socialist ideology.  Glenn Beck thinks that John McCain would have been worse for the country than Obama because he would have moved the country in the same direction, but at a slower pace and people wouldn't have noticed the deterioration of our system until we were deep into it.  Now, at least we have awareness, which gives WE THE PEOPLE a fighting chance at protecting America from turning into something completely unrecognizable!

[While I agree somewhat, I've never quoted Glenn Beck and find it curious that you would do so. When was the last time you had a conversation with someone who quoted Barack Obama to make a point other than how wrong or hypocritical the Dear Leader has been? In any case, last time I checked, Sen. McCain was never a Republican.  But I'm just nit-picking. -ED]

I do not believe we are just headed toward socialism, I believe this administration is trying to push this country towards communism with Obama as the dictator. I believe this administration believes in a one world order and I think that Obama would like to see himself set up to control that order or at lease sit on a panel to control that order. I personally think this man and his gang of thugs is most dangerous thing our country has ever faced in its history and too many people are shrugging his administration off and taking him to lightly. I hope the rest of the people in this country wake up soon and impeach him as well as all of those he has put into power or positions of trust. If that doesn't happen all one needs to do is look at Venezuela to see our future.

[I pretty much agree with you rocco. As a hardliner, however, people on the fringe of reality may not want to believe a guy like me. This particular woman's observations, however, are impossible to deny as a result of both her presentation and the fact that she's been there, done that and bought the t-shirt. -ED]

While I would agree many of the communist manifesto principles are eerily coming to pass, others are a stretch as to their inclusion. Be honest.

[On a slippery slope it doesn't take much for the acknowledged 'stretchy' stuff to get more real. Look back on the socio-economic events of the last year and tell me which ones you predicted. As the presenter of Ms. Sappington's rant, I can cut her a lot of slack because she has lived through the kinds of things about which you and I can only theorize at this time. -ED]

It's no coincidence. It's a movement to communism with socialism being a step along the way.

well, clearly livia is an illegal alien who should be deported immediately.  I mean, who is livia to come here, use our country's services without being a legall here???? i demand that she get deported and stop puting her nose into the business of LEGAL american citizens.

Anonymous

[Are you sure you don't want to leave your name and town so everyone can know who you are?  In the first place, refugees are legal aliens eligible for US citizenship.  No citizen -- Livia is a naturalized citizen -- can be deported.  If they could, you would be a perfect candidate to get sent back to Slobovia. -ED]

#8 in the manifesto is the requirement for everyone to work. Since many of Obama's fans do not want to work but get free stuff anyway they would make poor or at least lazy communists. I don't think Obama is that far left, can't see him requiring people to work by the point of the bayonet when necessary, if they want to eat.

[No major disagreement and, in fact, it is one of the reasons why soviet-style communism fails. Over-reliance on the nanny state ultimately leads to laziness and non-productivity and that trickles up, down and sideways.  But idealistic neo-koms always believe that their Dear Leader will make it different because he talks nicer than the others did. -ED]

Or maybe it's a "I know what socialism is and I read books about US history and culture" versus "I listen to Right-wing talkshows" issue.

DeltaLitProf

Jackson, MS Clarion-Ledger

[Spoken like a true academic.  Unfortunately, progressives hang on every word of drivel like that and on the psychobabble of political scientists and academic elitists.  What do we get?  A president who lectures nearly every day while his czars dream up subversive activities back at the student union.  Incidentally, your post contains a couple of grammatical errors -- but most of us uneducated Conservatives would never notice. -ED]

The sad part is that people keep buying into this nonsense, even though each time socialism is implemented it fails.

I guess the appeal comes from "getting everything for free" combined with the satisfaction of screwing people who have more than you do.

But eventually, the truth sets in and people start to realize that nothing is really “free”; there is always a price to pay. And the free stuff you get from a capitalist system is a whole lot better than the free stuff you get from a socialist system.

And as the EU countries are now backing away from socialism, our current administration is in a head long rush to embrace Marxism. Go figure.

I truly do not understand why some people are unable to see what is happening. It is as plain as the nose on your face. Is it they don't understand, don't care, or are so blind by hatred for people who don't agree with them they would cut off their own nose to spite their face in an attempt to prove their point.

Too bad there is all the talk about moving toward socialism. It is not socialism so much as fascism that we move toward. Whenever there is a reaction to giving the vote to the unqualified and manipulated it usually ends in government fiat that controls. There is no other way to counter the vote of the masses who should not have the franchise. In the USA the vote is usually meaningless. Look at our elected officials and try to find a wise man among them.
