I will see to the piece's exposure to the utmost of my ability SW. But sending links to your family and friends couldn't hurt. Your "hometown girl" is a GREAT American! -ED]
Good food for thought. The consolidation of companies is not a good thing either. Each dollar we spend is a vote, and something worth thinking about.

...Similarities between the Communist Manifesto and the Nazi platform of 1920...
- That all unearned income, and all income that does not arise from work, be abolished.
- Since every war imposes on the people fearful sacrifices in blood and treasure, all personal profit arising from the war must be regarded as treason to the people. We therefore demand the total confiscation of all war profits.
- We demand the nationalization of all trusts.
- We demand profit-sharing in large industries.
- We demand a generous increase in old-age pensions.
- We demand the creation and maintenance of a sound middle-class, the immediate communalization of large stores which will be rented cheaply to small tradespeople, and the strongest consideration must be given to ensure that small traders shall deliver the supplies needed by the State, the provinces and municipalities.
- We demand an agrarian reform in accordance with our national requirements, and the enactment of a law to expropriate the owners without compensation of any land needed for the common purpose. The abolition of ground rents, and the prohibition of all speculation in land.
- In order to make it possible for every capable and industrious German to obtain higher education, and thus the opportunity to reach into positions of leadership, the State must assume the responsibility of organizing thoroughly the entire cultural system of the people. The curricula of all educational establishments shall be adapted to practical life. The conception of the State Idea (science of citizenship) must be taught in the schools from the very beginning. We demand that specially talented children of poor parents, whatever their station or occupation, be educated at the expense of the State.

"Please don’t make this a
Republican/Democrat issue..."
And yet you name two Democrats while completely
ignoring Republican contributions to the ideas
presented. Non-partisan indeed.
[Three if you count
Chavez. But name some Republicans who fit the
same bill and I'll be happy to edit them into
the piece. -ED]
You
do have a point, there are some republicans
whose actions facilitate socialist ideology.
Glenn Beck thinks that
John McCain would have been worse for the
country than
Obama because he would have moved the
country in the
same direction, but at a slower pace and
people wouldn't have noticed the deterioration
of our system until we were deep into it. Now,
at least we have awareness, which gives WE THE
PEOPLE a
fighting chance at protecting America
from turning into something completely
unrecognizable!

[While I agree
somewhat, I've never quoted Glenn Beck and find
it curious that you would do so. When was the
last time you had a conversation with someone
who quoted Barack Obama to make a point other
than how wrong or hypocritical the Dear Leader
has been? In any case, last time I checked, Sen. McCain
was
never a Republican. But I'm just
nit-picking. -ED]
I do not believe we are
just headed toward socialism, I believe this
administration is trying to push this country
towards communism with Obama as the dictator. I
believe this administration believes in a one
world order and I think that Obama would like to
see himself set up to control that order or at
lease sit on a panel to control that order. I
personally think this man and his gang of thugs
is most dangerous thing our country has ever
faced in its history and too many people are
shrugging his administration off and taking him
to lightly. I hope the rest of the people in
this country wake up soon and impeach him as
well as all of those he has put into power or
positions of trust. If that doesn't happen all
one needs to do is look at Venezuela to see our
future.

[I pretty much agree with you rocco. As a
hardliner, however, people on the fringe of
reality may not want to believe a guy like me.
This particular woman's observations, however,
are impossible to deny as a result of both her
presentation and the fact that she's been there,
done that and bought the t-shirt. -ED]
While I would agree many
of the communist manifesto principles are eerily
coming to pass, others are a stretch as to their
inclusion. Be honest.

[On a slippery
slope it doesn't take much for the acknowledged 'stretchy'
stuff to get more real. Look back
on the socio-economic events of the last year
and tell me which ones you predicted. As the
presenter of Ms. Sappington's rant, I can cut her a
lot of slack because she has lived through the
kinds of things about which you and I can only
theorize at this time. -ED]
It's no coincidence. It's
a movement to communism with socialism being a
step along the way.

well, clearly livia is an
illegal alien who should be deported
immediately. I mean, who is livia to come here,
use our country's services without being a
legall here???? i demand that she get deported
and stop puting her nose into the business of
LEGAL american citizens.
Anonymous
[Are you sure you don't want
to leave your name and town so everyone can know
who you are? In the first place, refugees
are legal aliens eligible for US
citizenship. No citizen -- Livia is a
naturalized citizen -- can be deported. If
they could, you would be a perfect candidate to
get sent back to Slobovia. -ED]
#8 in the manifesto is
the requirement for everyone to work. Since many
of Obama's fans do not want to work but get free
stuff anyway they would make poor or at least
lazy communists. I don't think Obama is that far
left, can't see him requiring people to work by
the point of the bayonet when necessary, if they
want to eat.

[No major disagreement and,
in fact, it is one of the reasons why
soviet-style communism fails. Over-reliance on
the nanny state ultimately leads to laziness and
non-productivity and that trickles up, down and
sideways. But idealistic neo-koms always
believe that their Dear Leader will make it
different because he talks nicer than the others
did. -ED]
Or maybe it's a "I know
what socialism is and I read books about US
history and culture" versus "I listen to
Right-wing talkshows" issue.

[Spoken like a true
academic. Unfortunately, progressives hang
on every word of drivel like that and on the
psychobabble of political scientists and
academic elitists. What do we get? A
president who lectures nearly every day while
his czars dream up subversive activities back at
the student union. Incidentally, your post
contains a couple of grammatical errors -- but
most of us uneducated Conservatives would never
notice. -ED]
The sad part is that
people keep buying into this nonsense, even
though each time socialism is implemented it
fails.
I guess the appeal comes from "getting
everything for free" combined with the
satisfaction of screwing people who have more
than you do.
But eventually, the truth sets in and people
start to realize that nothing is really “free”;
there is always a price to pay. And the free
stuff you get from a capitalist system is a
whole lot better than the free stuff you get
from a socialist system.
And as the EU countries are now backing away
from socialism, our current administration is in
a head long rush to embrace Marxism. Go figure.

I truly do not understand
why some people are unable to see what is
happening. It is as plain as the nose on your
face. Is it they don't understand, don't care,
or are so blind by hatred for people who don't
agree with them they would cut off their own
nose to spite their face in an attempt to prove
their point.
