Dick Cheney: His Aim Is True

Dick Cheney: His Aim Is True

"He's perfectly entitled to make his case, and given that Dick Cheney is as popular as Britney Spears at a Sunday school teacher convention, we hope he continues to be the face of the Republican Party," said Hari Sevugan, national press secretary for the Democratic National Committee."

"His continued presence reminds people that the GOP is unwilling to put forward new ideas or leadership, and so long as he continues to be the voice of the Republican cause, he ensures that the Republican Party will remain the party of the past," Sevugan continued. [Quote from a Washington Post piece by Dan Balz.]

Excuse me Hari, but even President Obama now agrees with the former Vice President, despite a court ruling favoring the ACLU's contrary demands, that releasing controversial photos of questionable treatment of enemy combatants would only serve to "further inflame" their supporters and sympathizers while jeopardizing the safety of members of the US military.  Most Americans realize that Cheney's recent dialogues have been the catalyst for that decision.

As for the unwillingness to put forth new ideas or leadership, when will your second most powerful leader be replaced by a more coherent person who remembers what he/she knew and said when he/she said or knew it and who is prepared to deal with current issues rather than dwelling on the hate-motivated rhetoric of the past?

"Yeah, I caught one that big in the reflecting pool but I threw it back."

At this point the Republican/Conservative cause is being well served by the credibility stretching of the Speaker and the Attorney General.  Add to that the gaffe-a-day comedy of the Vice President and Obama's own ever-increasing flip-flopping and the smell of implosion is in the air.

Bill Clinton laughed off a question about Cheney and his recent claims that the country is less safe under the Obama administration. "I wish him well," Clinton told CNN while greeting voters after a campaign stop with Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe. "It's over," he added, apparently a reference to the Bush administration. "But I do hope he gets some more target practice before he goes out again," Clinton said with a smarmy grin, in an attempt to revive anti-Cheney sentiment by alluding to an unfortunate hunting accident in 2006.

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman..."

So who was ever more careless in office -- literally -- than Bill Clinton?  Whose scandals ever left a bigger stain on the presidency.  Of course, the Clinton Administration has been "over" for more than eight years but he continues to defend his legacy, to the tune of millions per year, as an after-dinner speaker and influence peddler.

The poster boy for hot air gets his hair mussed by the warm breeze.Speaking of heavy dinners, Al Gore hasn't shut up since the day he split with Clinton.  But while achieving universal notoriety and great wealth as the poster boy for hot air, Gore has done absolutely nothing to defend or protect his former boss' legacy.

"This isn't about partisan politics, it's about what's right for the country," Liz Cheney, the former vice president's daughter and a former State Department official, summed it up best. "Every American, whether you're a Republican, Democrat or independent, would agree that before critical decisions are made about national security of the nation, we ought to have a full and fair debate."

As always, when it comes to defending our nation, Dick Cheney's aim is true.

Good read. Thanks for posting this eddobloggo. I think Cheney is right to be speaking out right now.

Yer so right Ed! Everything on Cheney's watch must have been Clinton's fault:  Thousands of Americans dead , the economy down the tubes, the Middle East in flames, our military stretched almost to the breaking point, our soldiers' safety jeopardized by our torture practices, China overtaking us while we are busy elsewhere - I feel so safe after 8 years of Cheney "defending our nation."

[Thanks for the left-handed compliment. -ED]

It's not like Cheney will ever be accountable for HIS actions and why should he.  He has Haliburton .

Anonymous

[There's a Haliburton knee-slapper that brings us right back to 2000 when Cheney left the company.  And I suppose that every lefty hasn't been holding him "accountable" for the last eight years?  What's the Kool-Aid flavor du jour -- Goofy Grape? -ED]

Cheney should invite outed torture liar Pelousy out for a hunt.

Really can't show the photo's now,,, People [aready] Hate our [goventment] thanks to the former administrations LIES.. They did torture  Man up and tell the truth.

[Woman up and tell the truth,,,we all knew about it and we agreed by not disagreeing but we're playing the blame game to take the heat off of ourselves. -ED]

Ed, if your a con, why does your stash make you look so gay??

[If you're a lib why would you insult gays of any political persuasion?? -ED]

Hillarious!  You wouldn't know the truth if it sat in your lap and called you mommy!  Do you sit in front of

Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity and just take notes?  LOL  Good stuff.  Quality fiction.

Actually, I say BRING IT ON, DICK. Between he and Rush, the Reptilican party couldn't be more obsolete, faster than ever. The more he's on the idiot box, the more the idiots will realize just how ridiculous he and his ideas are/were. That and, the more he speaks, the easier it will be to prosecute.

Ed, you must be blind  and a bit off yer rocker if you think Clinton left a bigger stain than Bush/Cheney.

Thanks Ed, but I think you're wrong. Obama isn't holding out on the photos b/c of Cheney, but go ahead and keep thinking that. My favorite part of listening to Cheney is that he doesn't realize that "we got good information" isn't a defense to the war crime of torture.

Summergirl08

[So why didn't Pelosi try to stop him when she had the chance?  Probably because everyone, including her, believed that water-boarding was not torture until Obama said it was during the campaign. -ED]

When Eddie watches World War 2 movies he roots for the NAZIS.

[My father fought nazis during WWII with the French Resistance as an escapee from a concentration camp (yes, there were a few). Your remark is not funny and it helps prove Conservatives' claim that the left believes in freedom of speech only for themselves and that hatefulness is rife among liberals. -ED]

Yeah right, our country is what he is looking out for. Just like he looked out for Wyoming. LOL!

I'm with you Ed - Five Deferment Cheney should keep yammering about protecting the American public. That's the guy you want representing the Republican Party. You - and he - should keep up the great work. Attaboy!!!

[Hari Sevugan is the one who supports Dick Cheney as the face of the GOP so you're just putting words in my mouth taken directly from his Dem talking points.  I believe that Cheney's recent appearances are the impetus for Obama (and now Panetta) calling for a hands-off policy regarding the so-called "torture photos" and I applaud them for that common sense approach.  I hope Cheney does keep up the great work because he is a voice of reason in a world of blubbering idiot liberals. Don't worry, I will certainly do my part to support him. -ED]

"I did not have sex with that woman."

"I was not told we were currently water-boarding."

It seems to be the same "phraseology".

Clinton and Gore are making millions for speaking engagements every year. You are correct, Eddo. It's been almost nine years since they left office. How much have Bush and Cheney made for their speeches since leaving office? I haven't heard a figure for either of them. Do any republicans have money to pay them since they ran the country into the ground?

Draco

Lansing, MI State Journa

[For all these years I've been led to believe that ONLY Republicans have money.  Isn't that why the left wants to re-distribute wealth? -Ed]

Cheney was a good VP and excelled at most postings in government. He has yet to be proven wrong. Give me a hundred Cheneys over one biden or obama.

Nancy Pelosi...What a piece of work she is!

"Ummmm....Hello? 911?"

Yes, what's your emergency ?

"Can you please send the emergency Botox team out to Capitol Hill, right away !?!?!"

Pelosi's lips are getting all bunched up again from lying!

I'd trust VP Cheney to watch my back much sooner than Pelosi or Reed. With those two, Id have my back to the taliban so I could keep an eye on THEM!!!

You sure know how to get 'em riled up! I can just picture [name withheld] smearing on the bright red lipstick in the mirror while responding to you. Have you seen Silence of the Lambs? Just like that you know, while tucking it in to get a glimpse of what might have been? RIGHT ON!

Former VP Cheney might be a lot of things, but at least he can make a decision, stand behind it and not be swayed unlike the current president and his no-name VP. You know what? It was something I learned in a marketing class years ago that folks love to see an icon or important person fall from grace for some reason and I forget the exact name for it, but for the most part, the folks on this thread are statistics. We are all in this together whether one is a Donkey or an Elephant - we have lost our way and find it too convenient to play the 'Blame Game...'

...One thing I learned from being in a declared war is that the right people are there to run it and the wrong people get elected to lose it for whatever reason. I have been spit on and called names and chose to hide my past for 38 years, but I was one happy veteran when Bush & Cheney took office and if folks think they caused the current deficit, you need to go back and look at 'Slick Willy' and the books he cooked to make you all feel so good and make the Donkey's the Peacock's of Democracy...
