Where is the public outrage and vehement condemnation of these home grown terrorist attacks from the American Muslim community?! By their own silence and refusal to condemn these attacks, they are bringing suspicion upon their own communities and activities here in America. Surely they can see that?
What folks do not say is often more revealing of their character than what they do say! The peaceful Muslims living in America need to be taking a strong and coordinated public stand against attacks like these on American soil if the rest of us are to continue placing any real trust or confidence in them. Now is not the time for the so-called "Moderate" Arab community to be quiet over these accounts of domestic terrorism -- now is the time to go public with their condemnations, if they really have any. But their continuing silence is deafening!

Another terrorist attack on American soil. They have been watching this guy for months, yet did nothing. The blame for this lies squarely at Obama's feet. His administration knew about this fool and yet didn't want to "offend" anyone. What they should have done is drummed him out of the Army before he had a chance to kill innocent people.

He didn't "snap". There are too many premeditated moves he made well in advance of his act for him to have snapped. Those saying he may have been stressed by those he counseled in a PTSD clinic have no working knowledge of the clinical environment in the military. Dr's of psychiatry in the ranks of the military hold brief interview session, at most, with their patients, because it's required for them to prescribe medications while lower level staff and graduate med students attend to counselling and group therapy. It's my understanding from reports that he was confrontational with vets suffering from PTSD because of his beliefs. Which in fact would further STRESS them.....not him.

I find it interesting that some of the comments to your article and your article itself are asking where is the public outcry of American Muslims when every national organization has condemned the shooter as not speaking for Islam. Islam has no pastor or central authority like Christianity, so you have smaller voices speaking out in the community that the media does not always focus on.
This is a terrible event & it should be seen as one. What this man did was wrong and he should rot in jail for what he did. To say that because he is an Arab or because he is Muslim that it is a terrorist act just like 9/11 and another example of why Islam is evil is just plain stupid.

[Obvious selective reading of this paragraph:
As a result of the Fort Hood shooter's religion and ethnicity in
combination with reports that Nidal Malik Hasan had uttered the very
same phrase that has come to be known as the "famous last words" of
Islamists, the American Muslim community is growing fearful of
anti-Muslim backlash. CAIR's statement is a step in the right direction. -ED]
He went berserk in anticipation of being deployed to fight his 'own kind'; yet perhaps thought himself a revered martyr by killing Americans. Heck, we know what this is all about, but we like to keep our pansies watered.

This guy is demented. His bond is with fighting against the GWOT and he just stepped up to a level that has been seen before even though the indicators appeared to be evident. There will be others like him and OBTW there are plenty of gang members getting full-up training as well taking it back to the streets. PC in the military is really getting to be a problem but that is what we have nowadays.
I've seen the enemy and he is us...we have created a climate that our enemies flourish within our ranks, be that civilian or military. We now squabble over defining who he is or when did he become so. I find it hard to become overly optimistic that we will survive as a nation as more take on this mentality.

This is just another angry guy who decided to get back at those he considered responsible...He was an angry loser. He was not a jihadist. In the final moments he hid behind his muslim faith to try and give his senseless act, his brutal attack some meaning. Sure other jihadist kill for even less reasons. There is the tale of Sadaam paying the families of suicide bombers in Israel the average of five years pay. As soon as Sadaam was out of power and the pay stopped so did the suicide bombers.

[Fine. But like I said, 'Even if it turns out that this mass murderer had merely "snapped" it certainly does not prove that the rest of the jihadists are wrapped any more tightly.' So if the Muslim community wants to eliminate the backlash they still need to distance themselves from the real jihadists among them. -ED]
I too, find it interesting that we remove Christian and Jewish religious symbols from communities across the country and yet are forced to install other religious groups symbols (foot baths, clothing requirements, etc.) for fear of offending and, wait for it, denying them their constitutional right to religious freedom.
In some ways it is even more telling that a nation that has always proclaimed and defended freedom of speech that we are afraid to print anything in satire or critical of the Muslim faith for fear of the backlash from radical groups. We are asked to hide behind the idea of "tolerance". Expousing tolerance has led to the neutering of free speech. And I do wonder about the same so-called tolerance that terrorists show their victims when they print something the terrorists find offensive to their religious beliefs.
I consider myself a fairly average American. When a person does something bad in the name of a particular religion, I don't run out and attack all the practitioners of that faith. I do, however, expect the average practitioner of the Muslim faith to come out and state quite vehemently their disgust and disapproval of those sects of their religion that would carry out such heinous actions as cowardly terrorists.

Being that our troops are not safe from "sappers" in their own country and the military now appears to put uniforms on infiltrators, starting tomorrow there should never be an unarmed service personnel anywhere, even at home. I agree with a previous
commenter that this was a premeditated act; This
man was a psychiatrist by profession and
therefore he would have known who and where to
turn to if he needed help or felt overwhelmed,
well before he would have 'snapped'. He
probably thought he could shoot his way off base
if he had enough ammo; most crazies do.

Do you ever wonder why
wacko religious nuts are against profiling?
Could it be they fear profiling would lead to
their being caught BEFORE they commit a
terrorist act? They are goofy--not stupid. They
are plenty smart enough to use the average
American's sense of fair play to avoid
detection.
Believers in Islam would be the first to blow
the whistle on potential Islamic terrorists, if
they truly believed that terrorists acts are
wrong. The fact that the American Islamic
community does not report potential terrorists
can only mean that any statements they make
denouncing terrorist acts--after they are
perpetrated--are nothing but cynical lies. The
Islamic community claims not to support
terrorism, but the lack of meaningful
cooperation with law enforcement proves that
claim is a subterfuge for the purpose of
disguising tacit support of terrorism.
If the American Islamic community continues to
tolerate persons in its midst who may be
plotting terrorist acts, doesn't it seem the
Islamic community is ASKING for a "backlash"?

Lombago. This is a very
sad event. Several from Wisconsin were killed
and another wounded. The "jury is out" on the
reason this man acted as he did, but he is still
alive and we may find out? To me "radical"
anything may lead to disaster - if this is the
cause of this tragic event. I am currently
making some notes in regard to a possible blog
that addresses the military as an alternative to
unemployment. At one time (with the draft) a lot
of less then motivated people ended up in the
military. Of all the folks I knew well (back in
college) I was the only one that served, as all
of the other found "reasons" not to volunteer or
be drafted. Perhaps there needs to be a "harder"
look at those who enter the ranks of the
military, but it appears that the standards were
first lowered to be able to get the numbers
needed and now many who are looking for a job
are entering - probably not a good idea as these
folks may have no idea what they are getting
into and the possible long term effects that may
arise due to their military service
"experience". Combat is not a video game or the
version(s) found in the movies. A lot of stuff
to digest in your post. thanks - malark
